Most of us are well aware by now that in order to stop the spread of COVID-19, that extreme measures must be taken. The federal government announced yesterday, that as part of those measures Canadian borders will be closed to non-Canadians and Canadians re-entering the country, will have to self quarantine themselves for a minimum of two weeks.

Electronic logging devices (ELDs) will soon be mandatory for all federally regulated carriers. And before this law comes into effect in June of 2021, Transport Canada is requiring carriers with ELDs to get their devices tested and certified.

A year ago, the entire trucking industry was busy debating and preparing for the impact of the congressionally-mandated electronic logging device (ELD) rule. The rule required that truck drivers replace paper logbooks with electronic devices as a way to track hours of service. Many in the industry pushed for its delay all the way until the end.
